Medical Cannabis Festival – July 23

Please join us in celebrating the 10th anniversary of the RI MMj Program on Saturday July 23 10am-5pm at 3 Bell Street in Providence.  There will be lots of prizes and bargains with local vendors including Growin’ Crazy and Puffins Smoke Shop, just to name a couple. Green Cross will be there to let you know about their service that helps patients connect with caregivers.  This is the place to get accurate info about the MMj Program and the changes in the law while you enjoy great music, a chair massage, save money on merchandise, and so much more. All welcome. You do not need a MMj card to enter.  So, please save the date and watch this space as we add the details, list the vendors and announce awards.

Growing Outdoors ?

All patients’ MMj plants must be grown indoors.  That is still the RI law and nothing has changed. There is pending litigation which apparently raises the issue of whether caregiver plants can be outdoors.  The MMj Act specifically states that patient plants must be indoors but the paragraph that applies to caregiver plants does not repeat that specific indoor restriction.  The new law that went into effect on July 1  restricts patients and caregivers to grow at “one  premises”. The word “premises” is not specifically defined in the new law. Keep in mind that law enforcement has always required plants to be indoors.  The Attorney General’s office told us that the law has not changed and would not comment on the litigation because it is ongoing.  Until the law is clarified by a final decision of a court or legislative action, we cannot  conclude that caregivers can legally grow outside.  We know that the intent of the Legislature was that all plants be indoors. Until we receive an expert legal opinion or court decision to the contrary, we believe that it is very risky to grow outdoors for legal, security and other reasons.
